This scroll-bound register from 1390 in the collection of the National Museum of Korea consists of six attached pages, each of which is 55.7 cm in length, for a total length of 386.0 cm. The document was made in Hamgyeong-do, the home of Yi Seong-gye (李成桂), who in 1392 would become King Taejo, the founder and first king of the Joseon Dynasty. It consists of three parts. The first part concerned the register of 20 private slaves given to Yi Seong-gye by King Gongyang (the 34th and final king of the Goryeo Dynasty) on December 17, 1390. The second part provides more details and a guide for understanding the register. The third part is the register of 30 houses in Gaeseong (Goryeo’s capital), but their relationship with Yi Seong-gye has not been confirmed. This document is a crucial piece of evidence for studying how houses were registered during the Goryeo Dynasty.
