This stupa was erected for National preceptor Wongong, also called Jijong (930-1018). His stele still stands at the monastic site of Geodonsa Temple in Wonju. The main portion of the stupa takes the form of an octagonal hall, following the style of a monk’s stupa of the Unified Silla period.
