Mirror with Inscription of “煌丕昌天[Bright and Spacious Sky]”

This bronze mirror shows a boat, the sun, the moon, a dragon, and waves in relief. It also shows four characters that read “Hwang Bi Chang Cheon.” One possible literal translation of the inscription could be “brightly beaming and flourishing heavens,” which is believed to symbolize another world where Taoist immortals live. The boat is apparently sailing for a holy mountain believed to exist under the sea. Numerous mirrors of this type were imported from China during the Goryeo period. Goryeo people also made mirrors in imitation of such.
