Buncheong Bowls with Stamped Chrysanthemum Design with Inscription: “Jangheunggo”
These buncheong bowls with a chrysanthemum design are inscribed with the word “Jangheunggo,” which was the government office responsible for providing the royal court with straw mats, paper, and other related goods. The Jangheunggo office was established in 1308 of the Goryeo period, during the reign of King Chungnyeol, and it lasted well into the Joseon Dynasty, although the exact date of its disappearance has not been determined. These and other buncheong vessels with similar inscriptions were likely produced by regional kilns as tax goods paid to the central government.
