This is a statue of the Egyptian god Serapis which was unearthed from Khotan in Central Asia. It is presumed to have been made in the 2nd-3rd centuries. The god is portrayed as a Greek-style man. The inside is hollow, with the front and the rear sides attached to each other after being made in separate molds. The cult of Serapis spread to the countries surrounding the Mediterranean. This statue points to the spread of Hellenistic culture into southern areas of Central Asia.
