The body of this pitcher is modeled after a popular bronzeware form, and its lid, handle, and spout are harmoniously united. The lid is decorated with a phoenix perched atop a two-tiered lotus pedestal. The body and the lid are perfectly complemented by the handle and the spout, which appear taut as if they were made from actual pieces of bent bamboo. The expansive lotus flower and vine design which curls and winds freely around the entire body is painted with an underglaze of white slip, and its outlines and some details are etched to create a highlighted effect. The neck is also decorated with a lotus petal motif, with vertical lines made in iron-brown underglaze encircled by white clay. The glaze takes on the light gray-green hue characteristic of Goryeo celadon. The glaze inside the footring was removed, and five bare spots reveal where pieces of a refractory clay support were attached prior to firing. A Goryeo metal pitcher with a shape similar to this one was also found, and it was paired with a stand to create a set. It is presumed that this celadon pitcher must have also originally come with a corresponding stand.
