This marvelous bottle started with a round jar that was carefully shaved into the octagonal cylinder that forms the lower half. A long-necked curved beaker was then attached to the top. Among Joseon white porcelain, this bottle has a form that is both unique and refined. The pure beauty of the unadorned surface is enhanced by simple cobalt underglaze ornamentation. The designs on the upper half are jeonbo (錢寶, wealth) and bangseungbo (方勝寶, gilt paper decoration), two traditional auspicious symbols. The edged surfaces of the lower portion feature simple, austere renditions of orchids and dianthus flowers, epitomizing traditional Korean aesthetics.
