In celebration of the 5th anniversary after the relocation to Yongsan, the National Museum of Korea presents new titles of the galleries in accordance with recent reformation by chronological order. The newly organized galleries are; Prehistory and Ancient History Gallery (formerly Archaeological Gallery), Medieval and Early Modern History Gallery (formerly Historical Gallery), Calligraphy and Painting Gallery (formerly Fine Arts Gallery I), and Sculpture and Crafts Gallery (formerly Fine Arts Gallery II).

The new formation will be presented along with the opening of Joseon on Aug 5, 2010. With the main theme of ‘Land of Scholars, Farmers, Craftsman, and Merchants’, the Joseon room in the Medieval and Early Modern History Gallery consists of five sections under the following titles; ‘Joseon 1: Foundation & Organization of the State’, ‘Joseon 2: Confucian Development and Foreign Relations’, ‘Joseon 3: Reorganization of New Order’, ‘Joseon 4: Tangpyeong Policy and Cultural Enhancement’, and ‘Joseon 5: Emergence of Modern Society’. The new room exhibits approximately 1,100 relics featuring Portrait of King Taejo of Joseon Kingdom, and Astrolabe Clock (Honcheonsigye).

Not only to provide better understanding of relics, the new formation also aims to enable visitors to make full use of own historical knowledge learned from schools, which normally follows chronological order. After the historical tour at the first floor, visitors will see and experience the beauty of Korean arts on the second & third floor through a wide variety of artworks and cultural properties.
