The NMK Leads Asia in Visitors in 2009

The April 2010 edition of Britain's The Art Newspaper published the results of a survey on the world's museums. According to the report, the National Museum of Korea attracted 2,730,204 visitors in 2009, the highest attendance figure in all of Asia and 10th worldwide. In addition, a special exhibition by the NMK in the Ancient Artifacts category (Egypt, The Great Civilization, April 28-Augusr 30) was ranked 2nd in the world for daily average attendance, while one in the Asian category (Korea Museum, 100 Years in Remembrance, September 29 -November 8) came in 7th place globally.

 

The survey by The Art Newspaper shows the world's five most popular museums in 2009: the Louvre Museum (8.5 million visitors); the British Museum (5.57 million): the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (4.89 million); the National Gallery, London (4.78 million); and Tate Modern, London (4.75 million). The NMK has firmed up its central position in Asia by coming in 10th in the world. Going forward, efforts will continue to be elevated the museum's standing in terms of annual visitors, collection size, exhibit professionalism and visitors programs.
