Sharing of Decorative Technique with Inlaid Celadon
Making designs in metalware with inlaid silver wire is known in Korean as ipsa. Inlaid celadon, lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and inlaid metalware all differ in their primary materials but share the same process of creation. During the Goryeo period, there was a profession known as hwa-eop that was responsible for creating schematized drawings for craft works. People in this role were affiliated with the artisan system maintained by governmental offices. Hwa-eop are presumed to have contributed to this sharing of techniques and designs among crafts using different materials.
