Jar with a Poem, White porcelain painted in underglaze cobalt-blue

This white porcelain jar is adorned with an inscription of a poem by Shen Yueh (沈約, 441–513), a writer from the Southern Dynasties era in China (420–589). It aptly exhibits how Joseon white porcelain vessels such as jars, bottles, and writing accoutrements produced after the eighteenth century were often augmented poems and verses in cobalt-blue underglaze.
