Buncheong Jar with Sgraffito Peony Scroll Design
Buncheong Jar with Sgraffito Peony Scroll Design
This jar represents a typical buncheong jar of the early Joseon period. White slip was applied around the shoulder and upper body, but not to the mouth or lower body, creating a natural border that enhances the organic quality of the jar. The lavish peony design, made with both incision and sgraffito techniques, is characteristic of buncheong ware made in the Jeolla provinces. This jar is estimated to have been produced in Undae-ri, Goheung, South Jeolla Province.
