Portrait of a Boy
This gilt-bronze head of a boy was likely once inserted as part of a full-body statue, but the rest of the sculpture has been lost. The facial features, such as the small lips and chubby cheeks, are characteristic of a young child. Also, there is a “Horus lock” visible on the right side of the boy’s head, which denotes that the subject was a child. The expensive gilding indicates that the boy was from a family of the upper class, perhaps even a prince. This portrait sculpture was likely created to commemorate the boy after he was deceased.
