At the time this cosmetics box was unearthed from an ancient tomb in Mosan-ri, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do in April 1939, it contained a celadon oil bottle with inlaid chrysanthemum design, a bronze mirror, and a needle case. The shape of this box is similar to that of the laquerware boxes used to store Buddhist scriptures. A partition in the middle divides its interior, which is decorated with an openwork scroll design. The body and lid of the box are decorated with an openwork tortoise shell design.
