This cup and stand were made with a standard celadon clay and their surfaces were then entirely covered with cinnabar, copper oxide glaze, and celadon glaze. Celadon clay was used to coat the surface of the ware and provide a vivid red color. This technique was first developed in Korea in the early 12th century during the Goryeo period. The cup is larger than its stand, which is open from top to bottom, and the low-lying stand and its footed mount stretch outward. This particular pair showcases the typical style of cups and stands produced up until the early 12th century.
