The rear surface of this bronze mirror is engraved with designs of a dragon, tree and palace. This is a very representative example of the bronze mirrors produced in the Goryeo dynasty. Dragon, tree and palace designs such as the one on this mirror have very graphic compositions. They are larger than other designs and have been frequently adopted in many pieces of art.
On the right side of the knob, images of water and a dragon are depicted; on the left side, an image of a palace over clouds is depicted. The branches of the tree on the right side of the mirror extend towards the top of the mirror. Underneath these designs there are images of three people wearing pagoda-shaped hats standing over clouds. There is also a dragon flying over the waves and a man wearing a peculiar hat crossing over the bridge.
It is not yet clear what the original form of this mirror would have been or which ancient story the designs on the mirror are depicting. This piece was not discovered in China or Japan and so it is thought to be a production from the Goryeo dynasty.
