This jar was excavated from a Baekje tomb in 1969 along with a number of Baekje earthen and metal wares. Celadon of the Eastern Jin Dynasty produced at the Yuezhou Kiln in the mid to late 4th century is similar to this celadon jar. So it seems likely that this jar was among the goods introduced to the central government of Baekje in the course of its exchanges with the Chinese Southern Dynasties. Thereafter, it was transferred to a member of the local elite in the Hwaseong-ri area, where it was discovered, as the kingdom ruled over local regions.
