Avalokitesvara has been widely admired among Korean Buddhists as a Buddhist deity of compassion who saves sentient beings from all sorts of hardships while bringing them comfort and joy. This statue is an important piece of evidence that worship of Avalokitesvara had been established in Korea by the early 7th century.
