This flower-shaped celadon bowl is beautifully decorated with inlaid phoenix and cloud designs. The phoenix and dragon were both symbols of the upper ranks of the nobility, so designs such as this one were used only in high-quality celadon. Black-slip inlay was applied for the head of the phoenix and the head and legs of the cranes, while a white-slip inlay technique was used for most of the other parts of this bowl.
