This statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva shows a smile on its face and wears a jeweled crown carved with “metamorphosed Buddhas”. The pedestal displays a combination of upturned lotus flowers and downturned counterparts, and image originating in Tibetan Buddhism. The right knee is upright and the right arm rests on it naturally while the left hand touches the floor. Sitting positions such as this one are often seen in paintings of the Water Moon Avalokitesvara dating to the Goryeo period.
